Prayer is essential for all Christians. it is through prayer that we communicate with out Father in Heaven. The Disciples asked Jesus to teach them how to pray, and he responded by giving them the Lord’s Prayer.
We believe that this is not only a set prayer to recite, but also a model for all off our prayers.
The Father’s Character
- Jesus teaches us that we all have access to the same relationship that he had with the Father.
- We should always offer God our respect.
- Our spirit longs to be God-like, so that His Glory is revealed through us.
The Father’s Kingdom
- We have been adopted into God’s family, and we have every right to talk to him.
- Here we are standing with God. Saying YES! My desires align with yours – for everyone to come into your Kingdom of forgiveness.
The Father’s Provision
- We are needy people, and we can admit this to God, telling him our needs in prayer.
- What are our needs? Food, Shelter, Health, Spiritual, Emotional. These needs are our “daily bread”
- We acknowledge our Father has the means to feed us, no matter what our hunger is.
The Father’s Forgiveness
- God has given us our own territory, yet we often stray on to others’ territory to take what is not ours.
- God has set a path for us. In this prayer we are asking him to help us stay on that path.
- People will come over on to our path. This can hurt, but we need to forgive them the same way God forgives us.
The Father’s Guidance
- The prayer focus shifts from relationship with the Father to going “out” into the world
- We need to ask for strength to be in the world and not of the world.
The Father’s Protection
- Jesus says that the evil one comes only to steal and to kill. He wants to steal our hope, joy and love. If he is successful we will enter into a life of being separated from Christ.
- We need to pray that God keep us safe as we venture through life, following the ‘call of God’
